I had a previous version of Notes, Designer and Admin client 8.0, even if you use the 8.0.1 designer (which contains all the notes, admin and designer clients) the same error happens, the upgrade is not supported, I delete the windows registry entry (the path variable) as the Lotus support site recommend but the problem is still happening, I uninstalled the previous notes 8 version, but i didn´t remove the notes.ini and the data directory, then i made a new installation with the package containg all the client (as you said bad labeled only as Designer) and now is working...
Just an additional comment: I´ve also tried to change the InstallType variable in the notes.ini to reflect the real installation type, but i didn´t work...
As far as we know IBM is goingo to release or change this week the correct installation description. Now IBM Lotus support know what is happening.
